GOOD NEWS for SNAP!
Construction is in progress to install the special swing set that the Civitans worked so hard to purchase several years back. Please visit the work site at your earliest convenience. I believe that your spirits will be lifted as you see this being accomplished - I know mine were.
We all need to take time to thank a Civitan for the wonderful idea and several years of hard work dedicated to building a place for physically challenged children to also have a place to play. Had it not been for their idea, initiative and hard work, the comprehensive Special Needs Accessible Playground (SNAP) of Morgan County would most likely not be in progress.
Also, please remember to thank Senator Arthur Orr through whose efforts the $20,000 state grant was received - AND also, the General Electric Company which contributed $10,000 to SNAP. These two contributions combined make it possible for the swing set area of the playground to be completed.
Also, please make special effort to thank Frank Miller for extraordinary leadership and organization in managing this construction. He has pulled together members of his staff in Parks and Recreation as well as others in the City`s Department of Public Works to provide significant "in-house", hands-on support thus minimizing SNAP`s out-of-pocket costs as well as providing enhancing features to the facility.
The Enquirer will publish an article about this milestone event in the very near future (probably next week.) A special public event is being planned upon completion of this element of the playground, estimated to be no later than mid-May. Completion is dependent on weather and the schedule of the Dawson Company who competitively bid construction of the handicap-accessible surface and installation of the swing set.
I express my sincere appreciation to those of you who have contributed moral support, talent, time and energy during the past 16 months to bring the overall SNAP project to its current level.
Bob Francis
SNAP Project Manager
