Barkley Bridge fourth graders attempted to "level the playing field" at their school-wide field day last spring when their class officers spearheaded a campaign to collect money for the SNAP playground.
Many children and visiting parents contributed the change in their pockets to this worthwhile cause. More than $250 was collected and contributed by children and parents. The class officers each had good things to say about the event:
- Class president Cassie Beth Powell said, "It makes me feel good to help other kids who are less fortunate than I am. I want to help them in any way I can."
- Secretary Maggie Anderson said, "It feels good to think I can help make a difference in the future. Kids are the future, so if we can help them achieve their dreams we are insuring a bright future for everyone."
- Treasurer Cody Tapscott said, "It made me feel very proud to help disabled children who live here in our own city and county."
- Vice President Ally Maples said, "At Field Day, all kinds of children are able to run and play. We wanted to help build a place where every child can play. All kids want a chance to play!"
Principal Susan Hayes echoed the students' sentiments. "These fourth graders are our future," she said. "I will grow old when these children and others like them are at the helm. Our community can know that its future leaders are thoughtful and generous."
